Checkbook

Now is the time of year when individuals, families, corporations and other organizations serious about their philanthropy are seeking professionals to help them with everything from strategy to administrative assistance with their contributions and grants.

Those they turn to most often are estate attorneys, tax accountants, financial advisors, philanthropic counselors, and community foundations.

Looking to ensure that the non-profit organizations you give to exhibit sound business and operations practices – and that those organizations get results?

We know how to find them and how to connect you to them. When it comes to creating economic opportunity, for example, we work closely with 21 organizations that know how to create change.

Looking for the right “vehicle” through which to make your social investments?

A donor advised fund at a community foundation? A supporting foundation at a community foundation? A private foundation? We provide advice and counsel to private foundations.

Looking to co-invest with others in order to leverage your social investments?

Like Warren Buffet, who decided to put his philanthropy in the hands of the Gates Foundation, you may want to co-invest with others in order to leverage your own contributions. We at the East Bay Community Foundation emphasize partnerships and co-investments with individuals, business organizations and public agencies. Our Department of Public & Private Partnerships is dedicated to forming and leading such collaborations among organizations.

As an example, we offer individuals, families and business organizations the opportunity to invest- along with our donors- in a variety of “field of interest” funds that address specific needs:

Creating meaningful job opportunities for low-and-moderate-income individuals and families with barriers to employment;

  • Helping low- and moderate-income families acquire important economic assets;
  • Promoting growth in small businesses and assisting them in becoming self sustaining;
  • Ensuring very young children acquire literacy skills so they succeed in the education system;
  • Commissioning new works by East Bay artists.

Looking to spread the philanthropic motive within your family?

If you want to instruct your children and younger relatives about philanthropy through your family’s efforts, we can help. Consider, for example, providing a gift of a charitable fund of $100,000 or more so that one or more of your family members become engaged in his or her own philanthropy. A donor advised fund at the East Bay Community Foundation provides just such a vehicle.
