The East Bay Community Foundation and six corporations announced today that they are teaming up to provide $5.2 million in emergency relief grants to nonprofits in Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties.

The grants will go to nonprofit organizations that provide food, shelter, employment and health services, as well as other programs to aid East Bay residents who are increasingly reliant on help because of the economic recession, layoffs and housing foreclosures.

In addition to the East Bay Community Foundation, donors include the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Chevron Corporation, OneCalifornia Bank, Kaiser Permanente, PG&E and Give Something Back.
